in my opinion, to catch the country’s history is good for people to learn about it’s culture.

above all modern history has the most importance for them to understand the country’s present.

The Summary of Modern History of Korea

In Korea, before the 1900s, there was the nation ‘Joseon Dynasty’ which established at 1392 (at 1446, our king ‘Sejong’ created our written language ‘han-geul’). at that time, the Joseon was decaying little by little with it’s corrupted power.

Actually, before 18th century, Korea was above Japan. in oriental history, the order of level of civilization was always China – Korea – Japan. we exported the Chinese character to Japan at the 300s, Buddhism at the 500s, and advanced pottery at the 1500s, etc.

From 18th century, Japan imported the great marvel of western civilization very successfully and accorded their culture into that very swiftly and cleverly. Japan was developing more and more. but sadly, Joseon didn’t do that. Joseon even closed it’s trade gate and declined more and more…

After all, at the 1900s, Japan attacked Joseon with their advanced army and technology and make Joseon it’s colony at 1910.

In the colonial period, we lost by Japan our power, wealth, tradition, custom… everything. except our nationalism. we resisted against Japan with hard patriotism. eventually, when the nuclear bomb made a huge explosion on the Hirosima and Japan surrendered in World War II, Korea was independent from Japan at 1945.

Although we accomplished independence, our society was in chaos. we didn’t have proper government, useful property, and unity. after all, we separated. the South Korea was established at 1948.08.15. and North Korea was established at 1948.09.09.

And at 1950, there was a war : The Korean War. at 1950.06.15. the North Korea suddenly attacked the South with great of military strength, at first, South was defeated to Busan. but with the rescue force of UN which almost consisted of US army, South defeated North to around border of the North Korea. but at the moment, the China helped the North with their huge amount of military forces and the war became prolonged war. eventually the two Forces made truce at 1953.

As a result of the War. our land was destroyed totally. there was nothing at all. everything was collapsed and everyone was poor. Korea was the poorest nation in the world. at that time even the Ethiopia helped us by some meal.

And,

At the 1960s, we began to reconstruct our nation on the ruins of war.

At the 1970s, we succeeded in Industrial Revolution.

At the 1980s, we succeeded in Democratic Revolution.

At the 1990s, we succeeded in Information Revolution.

At the 2000s, we succeeded in Globalization.

And now, we are in front of the gate of advanced nation.

how about this..? actually, after the war, our history is very complicated.

so I don’t know that period’s history well..

but anyway that is correct summary I learned~
